What the tide brings in
Three stories a day: one local, one national, one from abroad. Only the ones that change something for your business.

Cóbano won't renew concessions on State Natural Heritage land
On October 13 the district's intendant, Ronny Montero, said he won't push to renew concessions on land declared State Natural Heritage, nor seek to have it reclassified. If your business sits in the maritime-terrestrial zone, check which category your land falls under.

More direct flights to Guanacaste in the green season
Southwest will add flights from Austin (Saturdays and Sundays) and Nashville (Saturdays) to Liberia airport in June and July 2027, on top of its February–April schedule. That's air capacity in the months that are usually slowest.

Canadians are skipping the US and coming to Costa Rica
From January to August, 232,949 Canadians arrived, 24% more than in 2025, while US arrivals grew just 2.7%. Tension between Canada and the US is pushing them here, and Canadian airlines added flights.

How to read the Swell Meter
Like a surf report, but instead of the sea we measure how many people are coming.
- Flat 0 to 2
Empty. Minimum staff and promotions.
- Small 2 to 4
Slow. Watch costs and target residents.
- Fun 4 to 6
Normal for the season. Run lean.
Tomorrow - Solid 6 to 8
Busy. Add shifts and stock.
- Overhead 8 to 10
Packed. Raise prices and lock in suppliers.
For everyone paddling out every day
Lodging
Compare your occupancy with the area’s and adjust rates and minimum stay before your competitors do.
Restaurants and cafés
Staff and purchasing based on how many people are actually coming, not on the day of the week.
Surf schools and tours
Waves, rain and guests in one place to plan the week.
Shops and services
Know which weeks the pricier places fill up and when to focus on residents.
How we read the sea
No surveys, no opinions. Every day we count the same area with the same method.

We go out and measure
We count what’s free for tomorrow, the weekend and key dates, and add waves, rain, the dollar and holidays in the countries our visitors come from.
